hmmm, i think the last time i did any blogging was before our "wilderness weekend," so i hope no one thought i was just dead in the woods somewhere. the weekend ("becoming an outdoorswoman," sponsored by the AK Dept of Fish and Game) was a TON of fun. probably the highlight was my dutch oven cooking class, during which i made lasagne in a dutch oven. using bear meat.
seriously. there are photos (coming shortly).
other than that, my weekend was all about fishing. i took classes in fly fishing, spin fishing, and fly tying. fly tying is a lot like making earrings, in terms of basic techniques. except that the hooks are much sharper. so that was a lot of fun. and now i can go with terry to his favorite store ("sportsman's warehouse') and (1) not feel physically ill and (2) even have an aisle of stuff i'm interested in looking at. amazing.
lots of other news to catch up, so i'll try to be better about blogging.
the biggest news is that my shoulder is doing so much better. at abt the 4-week mark i really turned a corner and started feeling better in leaps and bounds. still a long way to go, but definitely seeing improvements. yay! probably won't be kayaking this summer, but maybe next summer. or maybe even by the end of this one. right now i need to start working on strength training and retraining the muscles.
other big news: Mr. Purl,Interrupted is officially quitting his job in California (he's been on a "leave of absence" since we got here in 7/05), so it looks like we're staying put. It's nice to not feel so much like it could all fall apart at any minute. hopefully the university up here will cooperate and come up with a comparable job. but we're working on having faith that it's all working out.
the days are getting longer and longer here now -- it's light until about 9:30 already. last night we saw a pretty good aurora off our bedroom deck. it's good to be in alaska.
