speaking of cool commercials

Have you seen this? Terry watches it and gets all nostalgic for San Francisco. So I make "drive by shooting" noises and pantomime various memorable scenes from the 19 Bus.

Funny how the (Potrero) "Hill Girls" didn't make it into the commercial.... (Remember the Hill Girls, San Franciscans among you? We were living on Potrero Hill and I was commuting via the 19 bus when these stories came out, and I knew it was time to get out of dodge.)

because i needed another way to waste time

a few months ago, while we were studying for the Alaska bar exam, my friend and study partner Justin introduced me to the biggest time suck ever, Friendster. good lord what a way to waste hours and hours of your day.

But it's really cool. I've gotten reconnected with a couple of very long lost and far flung friends, including an email today from a guy I knew about a million years ago. He's an actor in LA now, and emailed me this link to the funniest fake commercial ever. Don't open it at work.

look ma - a mortgage!

after an initial scare with the condo last month (long story, not interesting enough to share, but take my word for it that we almost walked away from the deal), mr purl, interrupted and i took the big plunge on wednesday and are now officially homeowners.

and let me tell you -- it feels great. :-)

today was the big moving day, a convergence of friends with trucks and lots of great reminders of why we moved back to Alaska in the first place. because on a beautifully sunny saturday you can get 10 friends to give up their day, their trucks and their lower back health to haul your crap into your new house. and then drink beer with you and tell you how nice your house is.

which reminds me - - our new house is amazing. definitely the nicest place i've lived since moving out of my parents' place 15 years ago. and it's just hard to believe that it's actually ours!

i'm currently using the pirated wireless network of our next door neighbor. hope they don't mind. what ever happened to just borrowing a cup of sugar?

anyway, now things are slowly getting unpacked, and let me tell you, the guest bedroom/crafts room is pretty great. as an extra incentive for my fiber-artsy friends to come visit, the guest bedroom also holds the spinning wheel, the sewing machine and ... the drum carder. what more could you want out of a vacation?

pics to come, i promise. as soon as i find my camera.
